Last Wednesday I attended my first Cardiff Bloggers Social at The Alchemist, Cardiff. I was fairly nervous going because I’m not comfortable in new places and with new people. However, it was extremely friendly. Kacie from The Rare Welsh Bit; who organised the event, was so welcoming and immediately made me feel at ease.
It was a wonderful chance to meet other bloggers from around Cardiff. During this event, I was able to meet many different people. It’s always wonderful to meet other bloggers/vloggers from in and around Cardiff. There’s the social aspect of it of course but also a chance to share tips and tricks if you like. If you are a blogger I’d recommend looking out for any events locally to you! It can be intimidating if you don’t know anyone. I always found people are friendly and really welcoming.
On top of the social aspect, the venue of The Alchemist Cardiff was an experience in itself. Opened in July 2018 The Alchemist Cardiff is one of the latest venues of Cocktail bars of the same number that can be found around the country. On their website, they say,
COME ALONG TO MEET OLD FRIENDS, AND MAKE NEW ONES, AT THE ALCHEMIST CARDIFF SOON. DISCOVER THE FOUR FANTASTICALLY CREEPY UNDERGROUND VAULTS WHERE WE’LL BE HOSTING THE SPOOKIEST SOIREES YOU’VE EVER SEEN AND, ABOVE STAIRS, ENJOY THE DARKLY DECADENT DÉCOR, FLAMING ATMOSPHERE, CREATIVE COCKTAILS AND DEVILISHLY DELICIOUS ALL DAY DINING THAT’S BECOME OUR TRADEMARK – THEATRE SERVED!
The darker theme was definitely evident throughout the building. With metal braces around the bar area and beams in the ceiling. Along with fascinating artwork around the bar (I didn’t see the restaurant) and inside the cocktail menu.
As part of our evening, we had a demonstration of a number of their signature cocktails, such as Bubblebath, The Caviar One, The Mad Hatters and the Chocolate Orange Smasherac to name a few. All with their own theatre during service.
I don’t drink much, give me a white wine spritzer or a Peach Schnapps and lemonade occasionally and I’m okay. But these were all really interesting cocktails. I don’t think I’d go back and have many of the ones we got to try, but their menu is large so there will be something for everyone!
It was fascinating to watch the demonstration and learn about the history and science of each cocktail. The attention to detail was unreal. Definitely not cocktails as I’ve ever seen them before! But rather than talking about something I don’t know much about here are some photos of the demonstration I took!
We also had some samples of the food they offer in the restaurant but it looked so good that we all jumped in before I could get any photos! What I tried was good. I’m wasn’t 100% what everything was so there were only certain things that I knew for certain were vegetarian. But there was a good selection and looking at their menu there is something for everyone. Including a really nice selection of vegan and vegetarian options!
Overall I had a wonderful evening at the event and experiencing the Alchemist Cardiff. I will be on the lookout for the next event held by Cardiff Bloggers since it was a lovely atmosphere with many interesting people there. As I said before the venue of The Alchemist was an event in itself. I can’t imagine going there as a casual night out. It feels very much as a place you go for a special night out. I look forward to having the opportunity to go again and see what else they have to offer.
Have you ever visited the Alchemist, in Cardiff or one of their other venues? What did you think? Or is it somewhere you’d be interested in visiting? Let me know in the comments.
