I’ve always been a self-confessed nerd, so this year I made certain that I could travel up to North Wales for Wales Comic Con.  Conor and I were joined on our adventure by our friend Elora. We chose to stay with my parents who live not far from the venue.

Friday – Travel

Friday was the travel day. It was such a wonderful trip. We took our time and enjoyed the weather as we went stopping off at a few places. Including the Ludlow Food Centre.

There wasn’t much else that day. We chilled out for a few hours before dinner and went for a Pokèmon hunt as it got darker.

Saturday – Wales Comic Con

Today was Comic Con Day! We chose to go for a single day so we had to make it count. Thankfully the sun was shining because we ended up stood outside for two before we could go in to buy our tickets. Tip! Buy your tickets before you go!! You’ll still have to queue but at least you won’t have to wait until everyone else has been let it.

We did get to enjoy the sun. Along with having a front row view of all the amazing cosplay’s passing us by. It also gave us a chance to chat with the others in the queue with us.

Eventually, we got in and the atmosphere was amazing. The first thing we had to do was figure out where everything was! Most of the day we spent hanging out and meeting new people. This time around I wasn’t brave enough to ask people for photos but next time I’ll definitely push myself to do so.

This Comic Con was full of first for me, not only was it my first Wales Comic Con but it was also my first cosplay attempt. I went for a female Castiel from Supernatural. It was a fairly simple costume but for my first one, I was happy with the result. I had great fun creating the look and I will definitely do it again, maybe go for something a bit more complex. A group Attack on Titian Cosplay would be so much fun!

I was hoping to get a chance to meet a few of the guests. However due to our lack of organisation and limited funds I decided to leave it this time around. We did, however, attend two of the talks being held. The first was a Pokèmon talk with the voice actors who played Ash and Brock but we didn’t stay for the entire talk as we wanted to see the Lord of The Rings talk with John Rhys-Davies, Craig Parker and Kiran Shah.

It was so interesting and funny. The actors had a great chemistry together and it was over far too quickly and this marked the end of our day. After some dinner and more time getting to know some new friends, we headed home.

Sunday – Visiting

Sunday we spent a few hours in Chester meeting an old friend of mine. We went for lunch in one of my favourite cafes in Chester Mad Hatters. Although we all decided against having a ‘proper’ meal. I was tempted by the cream tea they offered. Nothing beats a scone with jam and cream while drinking coffee and having a good catch up. Perfect, after that we wondered around showing Elora around some of the touristy attractions including the Cathedral since she’d never visited Chester before. After that, we went for a quick trip up the motorway to visit Conor’s family and most importantly Raz, the new puppy.

Monday was another travelling back down South, this time we didn’t really stop off. We stopped at Ludlow Food Centre again, and I bought some cheese and coffee but that was about the most exciting thing. It was a wonderful time to spend with Conor and Elora, getting away from everything for a few days. But it was also a great way of traveling to see our family’s since we live so far away.

That’s my overview of our weekend away for Wales Comic Con. Have you ever been to a Comic Con? Were you at Wales Comic Con? Let me know in the comments 🙂

  • Aww, this looks like such a fun trip! It definitely seems like you packed a lot into a few days.

I’ve never watched Supernatural, but I’m familiar with it, and I think you look awesome in your costume.

So glad to know you had such a fantastic time.

    • Thanks 🙂 it was a bit nervous about doing it because neither Conor or Elora had costumes. I almost backed out, so glad I didn’t.
It’s something we’ve got better at, we both work in retail so we don’t get many holidays so usually just a 3 day weekend. We’ve learnt to make the most out of it.

  • I’m loving that you go Pokémon Hunting! I love the app as it encourages me to walk further and further. It’s especially great where I live in the summer months xxx

    • It’s so much fun, isn’t it! Yeah it so great for that, I also think its awesome for finding new places both when you’re somewhere new and where you already live. I’ve found places local to me I’ve not been to before.

  • Sounds like you had a great time at Comicon. I hope you liked Ludlow too, its super close to my home town and I love that place x

    • I’ve never actually been to Ludlow, just the Food Centre. Next time we go that way I want to go and have a look around. I’ve driven through and it looks really nice.
      Thanks for reading 🙂

    • Thank you 🙂 it was such a fun weekend. Luckily the weather cooperated with us.
The cream tea was good, I hadn’t even planned to write this post so I didn’t get any photos, I’ll have to next time!

  • It sounds like you had a lot of fun and it’s nice that you had some time to explore where you were staying too. I’ve never been to a Comic Con but have always wanted to go to one! x

    • I would highly recommend it! It’s the second one Conor and I have done together and I went to a few in Cardiff while I was at uni. I want to explore other ones around the UK now. It’ll give me an excuse to travel to different places I’ve never been to!

    • I’m so jealous! I’d love to go to a London Comic Con. I haven’t had the time yet but it is on my bucket list. That talks are always good fun. No two are ever the same because they’re usually Q&A sessions and people always come up with some interesting questions.

  • I have never attended a Comic Con event before but my sister is obsessed with comics and marvel and would love to go. I love the dress up side of it though, I went as Black Widow to a Superhero party last year

    • It’s so much fun! There’s so much there and sometimes I find that you’re introduced to things you’ve never seen before because of all the guests, stalls and cosplays 🙂 That’s amazing! I’m still working up the courage to dress up as a character like that.

  • Sounds like you had an ace time at your first Comic Con and wow I’d love to go to a talk with John Rhys-Davis! I have been to the Comic Con in CArdiff twice and it was good!

    • I’ve always enjoyed Cardiff Comic Con, it was the first one I went to when I moved here 🙂 Wales was different because we got to make it a weekend away. Rather than it just being where we live. If you get the chance do it, he’s really funny!
