Moisturiser is a staple of any skincare routine. Many people underestimate how important it is. Not only for aesthetic purposes. As the skin is our body’s largest organ it requires regular attention to keep it looking young and healthy. However, the skin on your face is more delicate than the rest of your body. You must use targeted products.
Which Moisturiser?
Any moisturiser is better than no moisturiser. However, try and look for certain vitamins, Vitamin A and B5 are useful for increasing firmness and increase moisture levels, where Antioxidant Vitamins C and E help protect new skin along with fighting skin damage.
Also looking for creams that are oil-free, non-comedogenic; meaning it won’t clog your pores; along with being dermatologist tested.
Picking a lighter oil-free moisturiser, especially if you have oily skin will replenish the naturally occurring moisture without adding excess oil. Whereas, if you have dryer skin go for a heavier, richer cream. Since your skin doesn’t produce as much oil.
There are many other ingredients that can be found in moisturiser, however, I am not an expert on this. If you want more information go and check out Hyrum’s YouTube channel. He has so much knowledge and information you won’t be disappointed. The main things I have picked up from him is to avoid products with fragrance. This is often listed as Parfum on the ingredients and is one of the most common irritants in skincare products.
When Should You Moisturise?
It is always advisable to moisturise daily. After you have cleansed your skin. Cleansing can not only clear away dirt it can strip oil from your skin. Hot water can also strip a lot of moisture from your skin. The heat can open up your pores. So if you are partial to a hot shower, you should moisturise afterwards. I’d also recommend using cooler water on your face afterwards to close your pores to reduce how much moisture you lose.
SPF in Your Moisturiser
When picking your moisturiser always look for one that contains an SPF. SPF 20+ if you can find it.
I never rely solely on my moisturiser for protection. Especially during the summer months. However, when it is the winter, or a cloudy day having SPF in your moisturiser means you have daily protection. There is always a certain amount of UV rays around that can cause damage so it’s better to stay protected. In the summertime, you can always wear extra SPF over your skincare, or even your makeup.
There you have it. Some of the reasons you should always wear moisturiser and why it’s so important in your daily routine. Are there any you think I’ve missed? I’d love know, let me know in the comments.
